Few buildings capture the confidence of old Clydebank like its Town Hall. Opened in 1902, when the town was riding high on shipbuilding and industry, it is a grand and handsome civic landmark – the kind of building a proud town puts up to do itself justice, with its tower and carved stonework looking out over the streets below.

Today the building is known as Clydebank Town Hall and Galleries, and beyond its place in the civic life of the town it is home to art galleries and exhibition spaces.

Did you know?

The Town Hall opened in 1902 – built barely a generation after the shipyards and Singer had transformed Clydebank from open ground into one of the great industrial towns of the Clyde.

A home for the town's art and heritage

Its galleries and changing exhibitions celebrate Clydebank and its people, from fine art to the area's proud shipbuilding and industrial heritage.

Over the years the building has been the backdrop to weddings, dances, civic receptions and council business, woven right through the everyday life of the town. It is a fine place to begin if you want to understand Clydebank, and a reminder that the town has always valued its own history.
