VAT Relief on Mobility Products
If you are chronically sick or disabled, you may not have to pay VAT on a lift & rise recliner chair and other qualifying mobility products — a straightforward saving applied at the point of purchase.
What it means
You may not have to pay VAT
The government lets people who are chronically sick or disabled buy certain products without paying VAT, when those products are for their own personal or domestic use. There is no special card or registration — you simply complete a short declaration when you buy. As your supplier, we apply the VAT-free price and keep the signed declaration with our records.
Eligibility
Do you qualify?
VAT relief is about your health, not your age. If you are unsure, your GP can advise, or call the HMRC VAT Disabled Reliefs Helpline on 0300 123 1073.
You likely qualify if…
- You have a physical or mental impairment with a long-term, substantial effect on everyday activities
- You have a condition the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness, such as arthritis or diabetes
- You are terminally ill
- The product is for your own personal or domestic use
It does not apply if…
- You are an older person who is otherwise fit and able-bodied
- You are only temporarily unwell or injured, for example a broken limb
- The product is for general use by others, not specifically for you
