The technology

What is a Zero Gravity mattress?

Zero Gravity is a registered pressure-relieving foam system, engineered to distribute your body weight evenly across the whole sleep surface. On a conventional mattress your weight concentrates at the hips, shoulders and knees. Those pressure points get uncomfortable, so you shift position through the night without ever quite waking. That is the tossing and turning that leaves you tired in the morning.

A Zero Gravity comfort layer conforms to the contours of your body and spreads the load over a far wider area, so there is nowhere for pressure to build. The result people describe is a floating, weightless feel, like being supported by water, and a deeper, less interrupted sleep.

Unlike memory foam it does not absorb or retain heat, and it recovers the moment you move, so you get the pressure relief without the warmth or the sinking.

1

Pressure relief

Conforms to the shape of your body and disperses weight across the surface, so pressure points at hips, shoulders and lower back are substantially reduced. Fewer pressure points, less tossing and turning, deeper sleep.

2

No heat retention

Memory foam works by softening with your body heat, which is exactly why it ends up warm. Zero Gravity foam does not absorb or hold heat, so the sleep surface stays cool through the night. Several models add a cool gel layer for sleepers who run hot.

3

The water-effect feel

A unique floating sensation: fully supported, with no sinking and no slow, stuck-in feeling when you turn over. It combines the pressure relief of memory foam with the responsiveness of latex.

Zero Gravity vs memory foam

Why not just buy a memory foam mattress?

Memory foam made pressure relief famous, and it brought two well-known problems with it: heat and that sinking, slow-to-recover feel. Zero Gravity was developed to keep the benefit and lose the drawbacks.

Feature Zero Gravity Traditional memory foam
Pressure relief Conforms to the body and spreads weight evenly Conforms to the body as it warms and softens
Temperature Does not absorb or retain heat; cool gel options available Absorbs body heat and can sleep warm
Feel Floating, water-effect support with no sinking Slow sink-in, can feel stuck when you turn
Response when you move Recovers immediately, like latex Slow to recover its shape
Support underneath Individually pocketed or orthopaedic springs in every model Often all-foam, with less airflow
Edge support Foam-encapsulated spring units, usable right to the edge Varies; edges often soft
Turning No-turn, simply rotate Usually no-turn
Where it is made Hand-finished in Britain, made to order Often imported, roll-packed

The range

Eight Zero Gravity mattresses, one feel at a time

The same Zero Gravity comfort layer runs through every model. What changes is the spring unit beneath it and the layers on top, which is how the range runs from a brilliant-value medium to a hand side-stitched natural luxury mattress. Prices shown are for a single; click through for your size. Every mattress is also available as a complete divan set.

Built into every one

What every Zero Gravity mattress shares

1

Encapsulated springs

The spring unit is surrounded by a high-density foam wall for firm edge support, so you can use the whole width of the bed and sit on the edge without it giving way.

2

No-turn, rotate only

The comfort layers are durable enough that the mattress never needs flipping. Rotate it head to toe now and then and it will stay even.

3

Hand-finished in Britain

Micro-quilted or hand-tufted tops, made to order in a British factory and usually with you in around two weeks.

4

Every UK size

Small single to super king on every model, as a mattress only or a complete divan set with your choice of base and headboard.

Good to know

Zero Gravity mattress questions

What is a Zero Gravity mattress?

A mattress with a Zero Gravity comfort layer: a registered pressure-relieving foam system that distributes your body weight evenly across the sleep surface and eliminates pressure points, giving a weightless, floating feel. In our range it always sits over a pocket-sprung or orthopaedic spring unit for support.

Is Zero Gravity the same as memory foam?

No. Both relieve pressure by conforming to your body, but memory foam softens with body heat, which is why it sleeps warm and feels slow and sinking. Zero Gravity foam does not absorb or retain heat and recovers instantly when you move, so you get the pressure relief without the warmth or the stuck-in feeling.

Does a Zero Gravity mattress sleep hot?

No. Not retaining heat is one of the main reasons the technology exists. If you are a particularly warm sleeper, choose the Nevis 1000 or Ocean 1000, which add a cooling gel layer on top.

Which Zero Gravity mattress is best for a bad back?

Most people with back pain do best on a medium to firm mattress that keeps the spine aligned while relieving pressure at the hips and shoulders. The Garscadden 3400 and Clydebank Comfort 1400 are the firmer options; the Heartland has a Zero Gravity gel layer designed specifically for spine, neck and back relief. The honest answer is to lie on all three in the showroom.

Which is the firmest Zero Gravity mattress?

The Clydebank Comfort 1400. It uses a 1,400-count firm pocket spring unit under the same Zero Gravity comfort layer as the rest of the range, so it is ultra firm without feeling hard. It is the one we recommend for heavier sleepers.

Do I need to turn a Zero Gravity mattress?

No. Every model is no-turn. Rotate it head to toe every few months to keep the wear even.

Can I buy the mattress on its own?

Yes. Every Zero Gravity mattress is sold on its own and as a complete divan set with your choice of base and headboard. All sizes from small single to super king.

How long does delivery take?

Each mattress is made to order in Britain, typically around two weeks. Two-man delivery to the room of your choice is £80 across the UK mainland, with the packaging taken away.

Can I spread the cost?

Yes. 0% finance is available on Zero Gravity mattresses and divan sets, subject to status. Ask in the showroom or at checkout.
