Designer Rib is the only rib construction among the wool carpets we carry, and it's worth understanding what that means before you choose it. A rib pile runs in fine parallel lines rather than the scattered loops of a standard loop pile, which gives the floor a clean, directional texture — closer to a natural sisal or a fine corduroy than to a conventional carpet. It reads as contemporary and considered, and it's a good match for a room with plain walls and simple furniture where a busier floor would feel like clutter. The practical trade-off is worth knowing: because the ribs run in one direction, the way you lay it changes how the room reads, and joins need more care than with a random-textured carpet. That's a fitting question rather than a buying one, and it's exactly what our measure is for. Underneath the texture it's a 100% wool pile, so you get the warmth, the natural soil resistance and the ability to recover from furniture that wool always brings. All 6 shades below can be ordered through our Clydebank showroom. Swatch images give a good guide, but colour reads differently under real light — and a rib texture in particular shows up far better in person than in a photograph, so come in and see it before deciding.
Common questions
Why is there no price on this page?
Flooring is priced per job rather than per metre off a shelf. The final figure depends on the room size and shape, the underlay you choose, whether we're lifting an old floor, door trims, and the fitting itself. Call us on 0141 266 0400 with rough measurements and we'll give you a realistic figure, or book a free home measure and we'll do it properly.
What's the difference between a rib pile and a loop pile?
A loop pile has yarn loops across the surface in no particular direction. A rib pile runs in fine parallel lines, so the floor has a visible grain to it. Rib looks cleaner and more contemporary; loop looks softer and more traditional. Neither is more hardwearing than the other as a rule — it comes down to the look you want.
Does the direction of the rib matter?
Yes, and it's worth thinking about. Running the ribs along a hallway draws the eye down it and makes it feel longer; running them across shortens it. In a wide room the direction can also affect where joins fall. We'll go through it at the measure rather than leave it to fitting day.
Is it suitable for stairs?
It can be, but come and talk to us first. A directional texture behaves differently over stair nosings than a plain carpet does, and it's the kind of thing worth getting right before you order rather than after. We'll tell you honestly if we think another range would suit your stairs better.
Do you fit as well as supply?
We do. We arrange fitting across Clydebank, Glasgow and the surrounding areas, including uplift and disposal of your old flooring if needed.
