About Huckleberry

Huckleberry is a 100% wool loop pile, and the clever part is how the texture is made. The carpet is tufted using two different yarns — a chunky six-ply and a finer two-ply — woven into the same surface. The heavier yarn stands proud, the finer one sits lower, and the result is a deliberately uneven high/low structure that catches light differently across the floor instead of reading flat and uniform. It's a more interesting way of getting texture than simply cutting the pile at different heights, and it's why the floor still looks characterful once furniture is on it. At 1,300g per square metre of pile it's a substantial carpet, and it sits on a jute backing — a natural fibre rather than the synthetic fleece used on most modern carpets, which suits the character of the range. Wool does the rest: warmth underfoot, natural soil resistance, and a pile that springs back rather than crushing. It suits living rooms, bedrooms and staircases, and it's a sensible choice if you like the look of sisal but want something softer to walk on barefoot. Part of the Floors by Lewis Abbott collection, distributed by Likewise Floors.

Colours in this range

All 7 shades below can be ordered through our Clydebank showroom. Swatch images give a good guide, but colour reads differently under real light — and the high/low texture barely shows in a photograph, so it's worth seeing the samples in the room itself.

See it in your own light before you commit

Carpet colour behaves completely differently in a north-facing room than it does under showroom lighting, and a textured wool loop like this barely photographs at all. Book a free home measure and we'll bring the Huckleberry samples to the room itself — alongside any other ranges you're weighing up — measure properly, and give you a written price including underlay, fitting and uplift of the old floor. Common questions

Why is there no price on this page?

Flooring is priced per job rather than per metre off a shelf. The final figure depends on the room size and shape, the underlay you choose, whether we're lifting an old floor, door trims, and the fitting itself. The free home measure is how you get a real number, and it costs nothing.

What does the jute backing mean in practice?

Jute is a natural fibre backing rather than the synthetic fleece most modern carpets use. It suits the character of a wool carpet and it's the traditional construction. The one thing worth knowing is that natural backings don't like standing water, so this isn't the carpet for a room with a damp problem — tell us if that's a concern and we'll check it at the measure.

Is a wool carpet a good idea if I have pets or children?

Wool handles foot traffic well because the fibre recovers its shape rather than flattening permanently. A loop pile like Huckleberry is worth thinking twice about with cats specifically, as claws can pull individual loops. If that's a concern, say so and we'll bring twist pile alternatives to the measure as well.

How does it compare with your other wool loops?

Huckleberry has the most pronounced texture of the lot, because of the high/low structure. Pickwick is fine and even by comparison, Nickleby is chunkier and more rugged, and Rural Charm is a quieter neutral. We can bring all four to the measure — it's a much easier decision with them side by side on your own floor.

Do you fit as well as supply?

We do. We arrange fitting across Clydebank, Glasgow and the surrounding areas, including uplift and disposal of your old flooring if needed.
