About Middlemarch
Middlemarch is made in the UK with a 100% wool pile, and it's built around a simple, useful idea: the same carpet in a plain and a matching stripe. That's more practical than it sounds. Plain through the living room and bedrooms, stripe up the stairs and along the landing — the tones are designed to sit together, so the house reads as one scheme rather than a set of separate decisions, and the stair stripe hides the wear that stairs always take first. The plains are quiet and versatile enough to work under almost any furniture; the stripes are bold without tipping into fussy. Wool does the rest: it insulates, it's naturally flame-retardant, it resists soiling better than most synthetics because of the fibre's natural coating, and it recovers from being stood on rather than staying flat. Part of the Floors by Lewis Abbott collection, distributed by Likewise Floors.

Colours in this range
All 13 shades below can be ordered through our Clydebank showroom. Swatch images give a good guide, but the whole point of this range is how the plains and stripes sit together — and that only really shows when you see them side by side in the actual house.

Stripes
Plain in the rooms, stripe up the stairs — we'll price the lot
This range is designed to do a whole house: the plains and stripes are toned to match, so a stripe on the stairs and landing sits properly against a plain in the rooms, and the stair stripe disguises the wear stairs always take first. Book a free home measure and we'll bring both, work out which plain pairs with which stripe against your own walls, measure the stairs properly — nosings and winders included — and give you one written price for the whole job including underlay, fitting and uplift. Free, no obligation.

Why is there no price on this page?
Flooring is priced per job rather than per metre off a shelf. The final figure depends on the room size and shape, the underlay you choose, whether we're lifting an old floor, door trims, and the fitting itself. Stairs especially — the number of steps, whether there are winders, and how the landing runs all change it. The free home measure is how you get a real figure.
Can I use the plain downstairs and the stripe on the stairs?
That's exactly what the range is designed for, and it's what we'd suggest. The plains and stripes are toned to work together, so the house reads as one scheme. A stripe on the stairs also disguises wear better than a plain, and stairs are always the first thing to go.
Which way should a striped carpet run?
On stairs the stripes run down the flight, which is standard. In a room it's a choice: across makes a narrow space read wider, along makes it read longer. It also affects where joins fall, so it's worth deciding at the measure rather than on fitting day.
Is wool worth the extra over a synthetic carpet?
In a room you use every day, usually yes. Wool recovers its shape instead of crushing flat, so it still looks like a carpet after a few years rather than a worn track. It also holds colour and resists soiling well. In a spare room that barely gets walked on, a good synthetic is the more sensible spend, and we'll tell you that.
Do you fit as well as supply?
We do. We arrange fitting across Clydebank, Glasgow and the surrounding areas, including uplift and disposal of your old flooring if needed. Stairs are the fiddliest fitting job in any house, so it's worth having it done properly.
