About Secret Garden

Secret Garden is a level loop pile woven from 100% two-ply wool. The two-ply construction is the part that matters: twisting two strands together before weaving gives the yarn more strength and more spring, so the pile recovers its shape after furniture and foot traffic rather than staying flattened. It's why a wool loop like this holds up in a hallway where a cheaper carpet would show a track within a year. The range splits into two design ideas. The stripes are linear and contemporary, and they do something useful in a narrow room — run them across and the space reads wider, run them along and it reads longer. The textural designs work differently, combining two contrasting colours in the weave so the floor has depth and movement without a pattern you have to match at the joins. Being wool, it's also naturally warm, naturally flame-retardant and it holds colour well over time. Part of the Floors by Lewis Abbott collection, distributed by Likewise Floors.

All 12 shades below can be ordered through our Clydebank showroom. Swatch images give a good guide, but a stripe is very hard to judge from a small square — the scale of the repeat only makes sense across a whole floor.

With a stripe, the direction and the joins have to be planned

Stripes have to line up where two widths meet, so in a wide room the direction you lay them can change how much carpet you need — and on stairs the run has to be worked out before anything is cut. This is the sort of thing that costs money if it's decided on fitting day. Book a free home measure and we'll bring the samples, work out the direction and where the joins fall, measure the stairs properly, and give you a written price including underlay, fitting and uplift. Free, no obligation.

Common questions

Why is there no price on this page?

Flooring is priced per job rather than per metre off a shelf. With a stripe there's an extra factor: the direction affects where joins fall and how much material you need. The free home measure is how you get a real number, and it costs nothing.

Which way should a striped carpet run?

Across the room makes a narrow space read wider; along it makes a room read longer. It also affects joins — stripes have to line up where two widths meet, so in a wide room the direction can change how much carpet you need. Worth deciding at the measuring stage rather than on fitting day.

Is a wool loop pile a good idea if I have pets or children?

Wool handles foot traffic well because the fibre recovers its shape rather than flattening permanently. A loop pile is worth thinking twice about with cats specifically, as claws can pull individual loops. If that's a concern, say so when you book and we'll bring twist pile alternatives to the measure.

Can I use a stripe on the stairs and a plain elsewhere?

You can, and it's a common approach — a stripe disguises stair wear better than a plain does. If that's what you're after, ask us about Middlemarch as well: it's designed as matching plains and stripes, so the tones are guaranteed to sit together. We'll bring both to the measure.

Do you fit as well as supply?

We do. We arrange fitting across Clydebank, Glasgow and the surrounding areas, including uplift and disposal of your old flooring if needed. A striped carpet needs a fitter who plans the joins properly, so it's worth having us arrange it.
