Sensibility is a cut pile made from polyamide, and if you only remember one thing about carpet fibres, make it this: polyamide is the most resilient of them. It's the same family as nylon, and its defining quality is that it springs back. Crush it under a sofa leg, walk the same line up a staircase ten times a day for five years, and it recovers where a softer fibre would stay flattened and develop a visible track. That's why it's the fibre of choice for the parts of a house that take a beating — staircases, landings, hallways, the route between the kitchen and the back door. It's also why we point people here when they've fallen for the look of a softer cut pile but the room won't forgive it. The twelve shades are quiet contemporary tones designed to sit under most decorating schemes rather than dictate them, named after the houses and characters of the Austen novel. Being straight about the trade: polyamide isn't quite as soft underfoot as polyester and it isn't as naturally stain-resistant as polypropylene, so it rewards a decent clean-up when something gets spilled. What you're buying is longevity in the places that need it. Part of the Floors by Lewis Abbott collection, distributed by Likewise Floors.

Colours in this range
All 12 shades in the range are below. Availability moves around at the mill, so ring us on 0141 266 0400 and we'll confirm what's in stock before you settle on one — this range in particular is worth checking. Swatch images give a good guide, but colour reads differently under real light, so come in and see the samples against your own dimensions before deciding.
Common questions
Why is there no price on this page?
Flooring is priced per job rather than per metre off a shelf. The final figure depends on the room size and shape, the underlay you choose, whether we're lifting an old floor, door trims, and the fitting itself. Call us on 0141 266 0400 with rough measurements and we'll give you a realistic figure, or book a free home measure and we'll do it properly.
What makes polyamide better for stairs?
Resilience. Stairs concentrate all the traffic in a house onto a small area, and the nosing of each step takes the worst of it. Polyamide fibres recover their shape after being crushed, so the pile doesn't flatten into a permanent worn strip the way a softer fibre does. If you're carpeting a staircase and you want it to still look right in five years, this is the sensible fibre.
How does it compare with Expectations?
They're both cut piles, so they look similar, but they're built for different jobs. Expectations is polyester — softer, richer in colour, better in a bedroom. Sensibility is polyamide — tougher, better at recovering from crushing, better on a stair or in a hall. If you want the same look throughout, we'd usually suggest Sensibility on the stairs and landing and Expectations in the bedrooms.
Does it stain easily?
It's less naturally stain-resistant than polypropylene, so it does reward dealing with spills promptly rather than leaving them. That's the honest trade for the durability. If stain resistance is the priority over everything else — a dining room with young children, say — ask us about the Gatsby flatweave instead.
Do you fit as well as supply?
We do. We arrange fitting across Clydebank, Glasgow and the surrounding areas, including uplift and disposal of your old flooring if needed. Stairs are the fiddliest fitting job in any house, so it's worth having it done properly.

We don't list flooring prices online — every job is priced on the room, the underlay and the fitting. Bring your rough measurements and we'll work out a proper figure while you wait.
