About Vanity Fair

Vanity Fair is the range to stand on rather than read about. It's a cut pile finished to a silk-like softness — the sort of carpet where people take their shoes off in the showroom without being asked — and the mill's claim is that it manages that without giving up resistance to wear and abrasion, which is the usual price of a very soft pile. That combination is what makes it interesting: most carpets ask you to choose between luxurious and hardwearing, and this one is positioned to do both. The twelve shades are contemporary tones named after the people and places of Thackeray's novel — Sharp, Sedley, Dobbin, Crawley, Russell Square, Chiswick. It's the natural choice for a main bedroom, a formal sitting room, or anywhere the floor is meant to feel like a luxury rather than a surface. One point of honesty: the mill hasn't published the fibre content or the technical figures for this range. We're not going to guess at them, and if the numbers matter to your decision we'll get them from the supplier before you commit. Vanity Fair is the softest, and the one to choose if how the floor feels is what matters most — a main bedroom, a sitting room. Expectations is polyester, with the richest depth of colour and a velvet look. Sensibility is polyamide, the toughest of the three, and the one we'd put on a staircase. All three are in the showroom, and five minutes standing on each settles it faster than any description.

Can a very soft carpet really be hardwearing?

It's a fair question, because usually there's a trade. The mill positions this range as doing both, and we've no reason to doubt it, but they haven't published the fibre or the wear rating to back it up. If you're putting it somewhere genuinely punishing we'd rather get those figures from the supplier first than have you take a marketing line on trust. Ask us and we'll chase it.

Is it suitable for stairs?

We'd steer you to Sensibility for stairs unless you've a particular reason not to. It's the polyamide range, built specifically to resist the crushing that stair nosings take. Vanity Fair is better used where you'll appreciate the softness.

We do. We arrange fitting across Clydebank, Glasgow and the surrounding areas, including uplift and disposal of your old flooring if needed.
