How much does it cost to fit a carpet or floor in Glasgow?

The question we get asked more than any other in the showroom is not "how much is the carpet" but "what's it going to cost me to get it down". Fair enough. The flooring price per square metre is on the sample, but the fitting, the underlay and the bits and pieces are where people get caught out. So here is the whole thing, written down.

How fitting is priced

We supply the flooring and arrange the fitting with independent fitters we have used for years. The fitting is priced per square metre and paid to the fitter on the day the job is finished. That keeps it honest: nobody is marking up a labour charge in the middle, and if a job needs an extra hour you pay for an extra hour rather than a padded estimate.

As a guide, and this is only a guide until we have measured your rooms:

  • Carpet is typically around £4 to £6 per square metre to fit, with stairs priced per stair.
  • Sheet vinyl is around £5 to £8 per square metre.
  • Laminate and click LVT are around £12 to £16 per square metre, which includes expansion gaps, beading and door bars.
  • Glue-down LVT is around £15 to £20 per square metre, because the subfloor has to be right first.
  • Herringbone adds around £3 to £5 per square metre to any of those, simply because there are more cuts.

The extras, with real prices

These are fixed, so you can work them out yourself before you even phone us.

  • Standard 8mm underlay for carpet: £5 per m²
  • Gripper rod: £1 per metre around the edge of the room
  • Door bars: £10 standard, £15 brushed metal, £45 chrome (for a 3ft bar)
  • Lifting and disposing of your old floor: £7 per m², or £2 per m² if we lift it and you get rid of it yourself

A worked example

Take a 4m by 4m living room, 16 square metres, with an old carpet coming out and one door bar into the hall. Underlay is £80, gripper £16, the door bar £10, uplift and disposal £112 and fitting at a guide £5 per metre is £80. That is £298 for everything except the carpet itself. Add the carpet at whatever price per metre you fell for in the showroom and you have your number. No surprises on the day.

Why we measure for free

Most of the horror stories we hear come from a bad measure: ten percent too little, a join in the wrong place, or a subfloor nobody looked at. That is why we come out, measure every room ourselves and give you one written price that covers flooring, fitting and extras, valid for 30 days. It costs nothing and you are under no obligation. If you take it elsewhere, fine.

See the full fitting and extras price list, or book your free home measure. We cover Clydebank, Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Dunbartonshire and most of Scotland.
